Young rugby players will be looking smart at Dragons Cup final thanks to D-Drill

Junior rugby players preparing for a major cup final in Wales will be looking smart on their big day.

Senghenydd RFC Youth has reached the final of the Dragons Cup in May when they will be facing Caerleon RFC youth at Rodney Parade in Newport.

The team has had a good season in the cup competitions, reaching the Welsh Rugby Union National Bowl Quarter-Final where they were defeated 22-12 by Aberystwyth.

D-Drill & Sawing, which has an office in Bridgend, Wales, is the new sponsor for the Youth team at the Welfare Ground in Caerphilly this season which includes sponsoring their polo shirts for match days and training kits as well as contributing towards their playing kit.

Dai Pritchard, who contacted D-Drill & Sawing for sponsorship after working with the business on some of his projects with Dyer and Butler, said the new gear was really smart and it was great for the boys to wear both in training and on match days.

“We started playing in the earlier rounds of the Dragons Cup in September and we beat Garndiffaith in a close semi-final 13-10 at the end of November so we’re really looking forward to the final,” he said.

“It is great for the boys to play at a professional sports ground which has a fantastic history and when the cup final comes around, we will head there with pride and look forward to the occasion since there is bound to be a tremendous atmosphere.

“The quarter-final against Aberystwyth was good preparation. We were winning 7-5 but Aberystwyth scored two quick tries in the second-half and we never really recovered.

“We haven’t had a youth team for a few years so this was a good experience, and we still have a cup final to look forward to.

“We are really grateful for D-Drill’s support because, as any amateur sports team will rightly say, this kind of help really keeps our community club going.

“Senghenydd Rugby Club celebrated its 125th anniversary last year and we are proud to be part of a club which has a special place in the heart of our community.”

Julie White, managing director of D-Drill & Sawing, which is a specialist diamond drilling, concrete sawing and controlled demolition company with offices across the UK, said teams like Senghenydd RFC Youth are the lifeblood of their community.

“It’s fantastic the boys enjoy wearing their polo shirts on match days as well as the kits to train in, and it gives them professional pride,” she said.

“The team has had a great first half of the campaign and it would be wonderful if they could mark the end of the season by lifting the Dragons Cup. But, whatever happens on the day, as long as they create memories and give their best then that counts for so much.

“D-Drill & Sawing is proud to be their sponsor and we wish them good luck in their league games as well as the Dragons Cup final.”
