D-Drill shortlisted for major industry award

D-Drill, a diamond drilling and sawing company, has been shortlisted for the training award at the Construction News Awards.

It comes hot on the heels of the firm winning the site preparation award at the Specialist Awards in March and, according to managing director Julie White, underlines the company’s commitment to quality and service.

She said: “We were delighted to win the Specialist Award as that was against many of our peers but the Construction News Awards is opened up to every business in the construction industry, including all the major companies from across the UK – many of which are household names.

“So to be shortlisted in the training category really does mean a great deal to us.

“Since the recession of 2008, I vowed – along with my management team here at D-Drill – not to cut budgets on training or apprenticeships.

“In fact, we have gone the other way and put more and more money and effort into the training and development of our staff. Now, more than 45 per cent of our workforce is either going through or has come through the apprenticeship programme.

“In the current climate, that is the only way we are going to grow the business by investing in our people and it is already reaping the benefit.

“I know the economy has slipped back into technical recession but we continue to win new business and that is because we have a skilled and committed workforce ready to meet any challenge it is faced with.”

Alan Rogers, operations director for D-Drill, said: “Training opportunities are available to everyone in the business – from our office-based staff to our most experienced drilling operatives.

“They can be longer term courses or short hit training sessions. We just recognise that the more you train your staff, the better your service and the better your retention levels too.”
